MicrosoftがカスタムAIチップの第3世代にあたる「Maia 300」を2027年に導入予定であることを発表しました。Microsoftによれば、MaiaファミリーはMicrosoft製品およびサービスの主要なAI推論システムになる予定だとのことで、NVIDIAへの依存が軽減されるものとみられます。

Maia 300は主要なGPUベースのシステムと比較して、メガワットあたりのトークン提供量が40％多く、完全な96アクセラレータ構成時にはMaia 200のラックスケールトークンアウトプットの最大7倍を実現するとのこと。Maia 200は2026年1月に発表されたばかりで、1年足らずの間にMicrosoftはAIチップの性能向上を実現したことになります。

Maia 300導入によってAIワークロードの効率を向上させることができるため、MicrosoftはNVIDIAやAMDのAIチップの使用割合を引き下げることになるとみられます。
なお、Microsoftのサティア・ナデラCEOはXへの投稿で、Maiaファミリーの規模拡大とMaia 300の導入予定の発表を「Microsoft独自の半導体についての最大規模の投資」と表現しています。また、MicrosoftはMaia 300チップの「マルチギガワット展開」に1750億ドル(約27兆7000億円)以上を投じる計画となっています。
