Did you ever imagine someone from small-town America would end up building cloud solutions in Japan? Six months ago, I couldn’t either. Hi everyone! I’m excited to share a bit about my journey, my passions, and how I hope to contribute to our team at Alterbooth. Whether you’re curious about my background, my love for music, or my path into tech, I hope this post sparks a conversation!
Hometown and University
Where I’m From:
Grand Junction, Colorado, a small town of about 60,000 people spread across 104 km² of desert. Known for its peaches, wine, and endless outdoor adventures, it’s where I learned to love hiking, fishing, and motorcycle camping in the Grand Mesa mountains.
Fun Fact:
I’m a classically trained percussionist and have performed with many ensembles. In high school, I began focusing on jazz drumming and marching drumline.
Education:
I earned my bachelor’s degree in computer science (with a minor in cybersecurity) at Colorado Mesa University, all while juggling classes in jazz performance and marching band.
Early Career: Walker Products
Internship & First Job:
During college, I interned at Walker Products, a vehicle sensor manufacturer. After graduating, I joined full-time as a software engineer, overseeing the design and maintenance of software and hardware for testing MAF sensors (which measure air intake in engines, pictured below).
A Job with Many Hats:
I also ran the engineering team’s 3D printer farm, developed desktop applications, and had my hands in projects doing everything from mechanical and chemical engineering to fabrication and soldering.
Eventually, I realized I wanted a new challenge and started exploring opportunities in Japan.
Moving to Japan and Davey
First Steps in Japan:
I arrived in Fukuoka in October 2023 as a language student, attending school near Hakata for six months.
System Engineer at Davey Japan:
I joined Davey Japan, an automotive export company, as their system engineer. My role included:
- Setting up AWS-based web app architecture for inventory, sales, and invoicing
- Managing their GitHub
- Migrating and administering their M365 Tenant
- Developing application code
- General IT guy things like improving their Wi-Fi and swapping computers to SSDs
It was a temporary position, so I began searching for my next adventure.
Joining Alterbooth
And now we’re here! 6 months ago, a friend introduced me to Mr. Kojima, and soon after I joined Alterbooth’s Cloud Solution department.
What I’m Excited About:
